Peeler

A German company approached us to design a premium, stainless steel kitchen gadget that would combine the functionality of a peeler and a julienne cutter. While plastic-bodied tools offering both functions were available, a fully stainless steel solution was absent from the market.

Goal

  • Sleek design
  • Precise fit and function
  • Easily assembled for storage and quickly detached for use
  • Substantial order exceeding 120,000 pieces, with a 3-month delivery timeframe
  • Competitive pricing

Challenges and Solutions

  • Due to rough initial dimensions, a final solution was achieved by welding a reinforced stainless steel bridge to connect the two wings.

  • Multi-purpose peeler featuring a single swivel blade suitable for both left and right-handed users, as well as a julienne blade. A custom-designed round blade stopper, precisely calibrated to avoid blade jamming or incomplete rotation, ensures optimal performance.

  • To ensure a comfortable, ergonomic grip, the peeler's body required a smooth, rounded form. Traditional stainless steel sheet metal proved too heavy for achieving the desired polished finish.  Instead, we employed a lightweight, yet robust, stainless steel wireframe formed using a high-pressure stamping process.

  • The peeling blade must operate seamlessly, avoiding snags and ensuring smooth swivel action. To achieve this level of precision, each component is individually adjusted using specialized jigs.

  • The peeler body must be robust enough to withstand usage but easily disassembled for blade changes. To avoid surface damage during assembly, a dot locking system ensures precise alignment and secure fit
